Podcatcher change notes

Change #007. Various changes in 0.31

Working on the experience when you install it.

1. It was shipping disabled. Couldn't see any reason why and this is wrong. Now it's enabled.

2. Do a scan from the onInstall script in #installer.

Change #006. Various changes in 0.30

1. Let the OPML Editor do the updating of this tool, it also updates opml.root, and sometimes changes involve changes there too.

2. Open the home page of the tool when it's installed. Created a new facility in #install to do this.

3. Played around with alternate ways to get MP3s to play on Windows, reverted back to using the launch.anything approach that works on the Mac. I think the reason I'm having problems is that all my Windows setups are new, and I don't have apps associated with MP3s. When I launched Windows Media Player and told it to grab MP3s it started working.

Change #005. Folder size limited in 0.29

There are two new settings in the Folder prefs page that allow you to limit the size of the Podcatcher folder. I needed this on my Asus Eee PC, which has very limited disk space, and others will need it too. It defaults to a limit of 250MB, and enabled. There's a checkbox for disabling the feature.

Change #004. Export OPML in 0.28

There's now a preference that allows you to export a subscription list OPML file every time you subscribe or unsubscribe. It's on the Folder page.

There's also a command in the Podcatcher sub-menu of the Tools menu that Exports OPML, but prompts you for a file location.

Change #003. Open Home Page command in 0.27

One of the first things I noticed in the new version of the OPML Editor is that when you install the Podcatcher there's no obvious way to open the home page. At some point the home page will open automatically when you install it, maybe even an icon will get created on the desktop, but in the meantime I added a command to the Podcatcher sub-menu of the Tools menu that opens the home page. This is the first place I looked.

Change #002. Unsub button works in 0.26

An oversight prevented the Unsub button on the main page from working in the initial release. Thanks to Kevin Tofel for reporting. It works correctly in 0.26, which is available in the next top-of-the-hour update.

Change #001. Initial Podcatcher release to FlickrFan users

How to get started with podcatcher.root.

1. There's nothing to download, if all went well, podcatcher.root is already present in your Tools folder and it has been loaded and is ready to run. However it is not enabled until you enable it.

2. Click here to visit the first Prefs page for Podcatcher. Click the first checkbox to enable the podcatcher. If you want to do a scan right now, check the second box. Click on Submit

3. At the outset we automatically added the default feeds so there's something for it to download the first time it scans. If you visit the Events page you'll see a list of podcasts that have been downloaded.

4. You can subscribe to new podcasts on the home page of the Podcatcher website.

If you have any questions or comments please post them below.

Hope you like it!

Dave
